My Golden Milk Recipe for Clear Skin and Enhanced Liver Function
Herbs are a great tool to help the body with many different ailments and have been used for centuries to help prevent disease, reduce inflammation, and even for antimicrobial compounds. Turmeric, or Curcuma longa, is a golden spice that has been used for centuries in both culinary and medicinal applications. Turmeric is an herb I recommend a lot to patients for it’s anti-inflammatory benefits, antioxidant abilities, and liver supporting benefits.

Turmeric Anti-Inflammatory Properties
Turmeric’s active compound, curcumin, is one of the most potent anti-inflammatory agents found in nature. Inflammation is a major driver of acne, so reducing that inflammation can help prevent breakouts.
Turmeric’s Connection toYour Liver
Curcumin is a great enhancer of liver function, allowing your body to process and eliminate toxins more efficiently. Consuming turmeric will also enhance the production and flow of bile, which is a vital part of detoxification. Bile helps to eliminate toxins like heavy metals and estrogen your body no longer has use for. If you’re experiencing acne around your jawline and notice your breakouts are worse in the second half of your cycle (your luteal phase), this is often an indicator that you need estrogen support, along with symptoms like heavy periods, period cramps, PMS, low libido, irregular periods.
High heavy metals are also a culprit when it comes to acne. Heavy metals can overburden the body and liver, creating inflammation, and triggering more acne. Enhancing bile flow can help eliminate heavy metals from the body.
With less toxin build-up, your skin is less likely to experience inflammatory acne.
Golden Milk Recipe
Making golden milk is pretty easy, you can enjoy it hot or cold. If you choose to enjoy golden milk cold, make sure to melt the coconut oil before adding it into the mix.
Turmeric requires a driver to help bring the curcumin (the active component of turmeric) into the body. You can use black pepper and/or cinnamon as drivers to get the curcumin into the body from the digestive tract. I usually use both.
Ingredients:
2 cups of almond milk
1tbs of turmeric (freshly grated or powder)
1tbs of coconut oil or ghee
1tbs of honey or maple syrup
2tsp of cinnamon
A dash of black pepper
Directions: Combine all ingredients in a small pot on low to medium heat until all ingredients are combined. Then pour into a mug and enjoy!
